The Pipers' Tryst Review

  • Rating Nice food but terrible service! (Rating 2/5)
First time at this restaurant and took visiting friends, as had heard good things about it! But after this horrendous experience, I will not be back and will be advising others not to go! To start with my friends starter came and was nothing like the description on the menu! She expected a piece of duck but was presented with a potato cake with a tiny sliver of duck in it! Clearly not described correctly! When we pointed this out to the waiter, he did offer a replacement, eventually, but as we had already waited such a long time to get starters, she said she would eat it but expected some form of discount! Waiter said he could not give a discount but would give her a free drink, but we had a bottle of wine already! He eventually, grudgingly, took a drink off the bill! Again, waited a long time on mains and had to ask how long they would be, we had pointed out that we had plans and had time constraints, at the start of our meal! However, I had allowed 2 hours for the meal! Ample time I would have thought! By this time the place was very busy but staff seemed more intent on serving at the bar! Two other tables around us were unhappy and complained about the lack of service! When we were finally finished and had paid the bill, we were told that our jackets would be brought to us, we stood for some time at the table and I watched the waiter, who was seemingly bringing our jackets, serve 3 people! I finally, asked a passing waiter if he knew when we would get our jackets and if this was the standard of service usually provided? He replied "Why don't you just walk over there and get your jackets"!! How very rude and unacceptable. Our experience was a very poor one and clearly a total lack of customer service! At this point we asked to see the Manager, she duly came and we quickly explained what we had experienced, she listened and then said "Well enjoy the rest of your night". It beggars belief how disinterested the staff were! My friend got another Managers card and will be complaining directly to them. Such a shame that the staff and service ruined a special night and the food was actually very nice! But will not be back!
