Piccolo Mondo served excellent food, in the most lovely surroundings, and the menu we had represented excellent value for money. For these reasons, I would definitely recommend it.
However, the evening was somewhat tarnished by a slightly harassed maitre d’ .
When we arrived, she snapped at the waiter who was taking us to our table, then would not allow one of the guests to join us at the table upon her arrival, telling her “you’ll have to wait here”. She brought us our bill without us asking for it and stood at the door holding our coats while we were getting organised to leave. Surprising, as the restaurant was half full at most.
The rest of the staff were extremely pleasant, which meant that we didn’t mind so much that they were a bit disorganised. (We were offered a wine list but didn’t receive it, and it wasn’t until the waiter asked whether we wished to order wine that he realised we hadn’t been given a wine list. We also ordered a bottle of water and had to ask again for this once the food arrived.)
I hope that when we return – which we definitely will, for the lovely food – these issues are resolved.
