This has to be my worst ever experience in a restaurant anywhere! My partner and I arrived punctually at 5.55pm for our 6pm booking. The waiter showed us to our seats, gave us menus and asked what we would like to drink – we asked for one glass of wine for me and a glass of water each (my partner was driving).
We were continuously ignored and did not receive our drinks and no-one came to take our food order, despite stopping the waiter several times to ask. Meantime we could see that others in the restaurant who’d arrived after us had received their drinks and had their food orders taken, including a table who’d taken their seats a good 5 minutes after us.
Eventually after about 20 minutes my glass of wine arrived but no water and the waiter took our food order.
When we had been there for 30 minutes with no further service I went up to the bar to ask the waitress about our water and food. The proprietor - - intervened before I could speak to the waitress behind the bar. His whole attitude was completely condescending towards me when I politely pointed out how long we had been waiting and the discrepancies in the service compared with other tables.
The glasses of water arrived at our table right afterwards and about 5 minutes after I returned to my seat – 35 minutes after we had arrived – my parner’s starter arrived. It has to be the tiniest, coldest little bruschetta I’ve ever seen. Our main courses – lasagne for my partner and beef stroganoff for me - were very average at best or probably more like poor in the case of the stroganoff. When the proprietor arrived with our main courses, we said we’d like to give him our order for dessert and coffee, to ensure there was no further delay.
Imagine our complete disbelief when the waiter arrived immediately after – while we were just starting to eat our main courses – and put down a tiramisu and a coffee on the table!
The tiramisu was, again, a small portion and rather average.
When finally the bill arrived, to add insult to injury, we were overcharged! We were charged the wrong price for the pre-theatre and we were also charged for a second glass of wine which we didn’t have. Needless to say, when the corrected bill arrived, we paid up and didn’t leave a tip. We wouldn’t go back if we were paid!
