The brainchild of West Coast shellfish producers, Glasgow’s Mussel Inn is a bright, bustling and airy city centre restaurant that serves all sorts of Scottish seafood. Many seafood restaurants would bracket themselves in the fine dining category but the Mussel Inn is more informal than that and this is happily reflected in the wallet-friendly prices. It would be easy to come here for a big celebratory meal with a crowd of friends and family but the Mussel Inn is just as popular with shoppers popping in for half a dozen oysters or a warming bowl of seafood chowder.
Scottish seafood
The Mussel Inn on Glasgow’s Hope Street specialises in shellfish from the clear waters of Scotland’s West Coast. They serve fish in dishes such as the fishcakes or the seafood platter but the focus is on pots of plump mussels in a variety of sauces that run from the classic cream, shallots and garlic to more exotic Moroccan flavourings. As well as the mussels, oysters, scallops, crab and prawns also play a starring role on the menu in choices like the crab salad, stir-fried prawn noodles or the oysters grilled with bacon and Gruyere cheese. Those poor souls who don’t like seafood will still find something to like at Glasgow’s Mussel Inn. There are always vegetarian options on the menu.
