Just a couple of doors down from the well established Gandolfi flagship restaurant, this new seafood entrant to Glasgow’s Merchant City dining scene already looks very much at home. Gandolfi Fish runs a seasonally adjusted a la carte menu which pays tribute to the different types of fish and seafood landed in local ports at different times of the year. Separated into two dining areas, with booths and counter seating at the rear, Gandolfi’s interior is light and airy, showcasing a specially commissioned artwork by Lewis-based Moira Maclean.
Scottish seafood
Glasgow’s Gandolfi Fish likes to keep it fairly simple when it comes to its treatment of prime Scottish seafood. The Gandolfi fish pie, the omelette Arnold Bennett or the poached smoked haddock fillet served with a chive crush, grain mustard sauce and poached egg are typical. There is always a selection of gutsy meat dishes such as the slow roast pork belly with root veg puree and cider sauce or the shin of beef and mash. Daily specials, for example, the curried crab cakes with pickled vegetables and chilli sauce or the harissa-marinated mackerel fillets, may prolong the decision-making process. There is lots more to say but essentially, if in Glasgow, Gandolfi Fish will suit anyone who likes fruits of the sea, Scottish-style.
