Two friends and I returned to the Windows restaurant after a several years gap. It was a most disappointing experience.
Initially I was pleased as the restaurant is beautifully positioned on the 7th floor and the dining room makes true advantage of the view with full length windows.
I was met by a waiter who showed me to the table for three people, took my coat and then abandoned me. As it happens the couple I was meeting were 20 minutes late so I had time to look around and was surprised to see all tables bar two were set for afternoon tea and indeed several other guests were all enjoying afternoon teas although this was 12.30 pm.
Then I noticed our table was also set for tea, so I called the waiter who seemed surprised we had come for lunch and moved me to another table.
I then had to call the waiter to ask for water while I waited. This was brought but no menus. I later went to the desk and asked for menus to be given one only, printed on paper which had been through the printer already and had letters imprinted from the first pass.
After my friends arrived we ordered our meal and tried to order from the wine list to be told six of the wines on the short list were not available.
In my opinion it was no more than acceptable, I could not eat my starter and no comment was made when i returned most of it.
We will certainly not go back and were only grateful that we paid £12 rather than the menu price of £16.50 for two courses, thanks to 5pm.co.uk
Glasgow can and does do so very much better than this.
