There was a good choice of dishes which majored in fresh Scottish produce. The food was hearty, tasty and well presented. For starters we particularly enjoyed the excellent creamy Cullen Skink soup and the Crispy Goat’s Cheese Risotto Balls with sweet red pepper and tomato dip. For mains most of our group chose the oven roasted breast of chicken which was perfectly cooked and moist and the roasted Coley which was the fish of the day. To finish the Crème Brulee was rich with vanilla and the shortbread was light and buttery. The sticky toffee pudding was hot and sweet and topped off with a rich butterscotch sauce and a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream.
Cafe Source has casual and more formal dining and the menu provides a wide choice ranging from a Scotch Pie to a Croque Monsieur or Pan-Fried King Scallops. Although this establishment is a bit out of the way and located in a basement, the food is good, the service is relaxed and efficient and the wine included dinner offer is great value for money. Definitely recommended.
