Friendly and efficient service overshadowed by disappointing ambience and inconsistent fare. My starter and main (smoked salmon and daube of beef) were pale shadows of the respective versions savoured during September's visit to its sister venue in the West End. Skill, size and general execution all fell considerably below the level experienced earlier. As the house label (with the 5pm Dinner Offer) is not great, we would happily pay more for a premium bottle of wine on dinner deal if possible. Finally, like other Merchant City venues, this restaurant tries a little too hard to create a bright and lively atmosphere, and unfortunately appeared slightly cheap and tacky. In short, we prefer the more relaxed setting of its sister venue, and would gladly return there.
