Cafe Rogano Review

  • Rating Rating 4.6/5
We were on the Glenfiddich Dinearound deal - £15.95/person for 2 courses. Starters were excellent - I had Orkney Crab (delicious)& my partner had the Fish Soup. My Moroccan-style lamb was tender and tasty. My partner went for the Rogano Fish and Chips, which I sampled. I'm an Eastcoaster by upbringing, and therefore pernickety about my fish. This had that slightly dry texture and just-a-tinge less than fresh flavour I associate with frozen fish products - not unpalatable, but a bit of a disappointment. The chips were chunky, hand-cut and first-class. Portions were on the small side, so we opted for dessert. My Sticky Toffee Pudding was good (but I've had better)and well presented with ice-cream in a brandy-snap bowl. My partner had something chocolate - sorry, can't recall what it was, but it vanished extremely fast, so I presume she enjoyed it! With two glasses of a decent Syrah and two generous shots of Glenfiddich thrown in, this was an extremely good deal, and the service and general ambience were terrific. I'd definitely go again (but not for the Fish and Chips).
