Brian Maule at Chardon D'Or Reviews

  • Per theatre good value (Rating 4/5)
Pre theatre menu good value but had to ask for it despite booking it through 5pm, immediately given normal menu which is very expensive. Service was good and food excellent.

Visited on a Monday night, just lovely and very difficult to fault. Food, ambience and service spot on.

  • Pre theatre delight (Rating 4.4/5)
This was an excellent way to start the evening out - very tempting pre theatre menu - we both opted for the smoked fish tartlet, being picky the pastry was a little soggy, mains of lamb and oxtail were simple and delightful - shared a selection of cheeses and both remarked on the very good level of cooking and service. Slight lack of atmosphere due to early KO

  • Disappointing (Rating 2.8/5)
We live in Edinburgh and have been meaning to try this for a while, being one of Glasgow's better rated restaurants. While the Scallop starter was ok, they were a trifle overcooked. The Duck Trio was fine. As for mains, and bearing in mind this is not a Michelin, they are overpriced. In particular, the Arctic Char was overcooked & the dumplings chewy. I could have done better myself. For £24 I would expect better. No cheese, ain't paying £12.50. Service was impossibly slow. I realise it's meant to be relaxed service and we do appreciate slow food, but there was an hour between courses, come on.
