Having visited Amarone many times I was looking forward to a delicious meal to celebrate my mum's birthday. Three of our party arrived and were seated promptly and when the other three (including me) arrived we were asked to wait until someone was available to seat us and were then left to stand in the bar area for five minutes before going to find the rest of our party ourselves. The restaurant was extremely busy and service was very slow. I ordered mussels and clams to start which arrived looking very dry - there was none of the white wine, garlic, parsley and olive oil sauce left in the dish as it seemed to have evaporated. The mussels smelled very fishy and didn't taste much better and I promptly sent them back. Another member of our party ordered the prawns to start (usually a favourite of mine) and these seemed to have been through the same process as the mussels with no sauce for dipping the crusty bread and very dry shrunken prawns.
I had the crab and prawn risotto for main course which was not really up to its usual standard - all in all very disappointing especially considering the usual delicious meals that I have enjoyed at Amarone in the past. I have to say this has put me off slightly however I'm sure I will go back and hope the standard has improved back to its usual.
