On my booking request I asked that 200 confirm they could accommodate a gluten free afternoon tea. I never received a response and contacted them on the morning of the booking. I was assured that they could. On arriving we were sat at our table with no offer of a tea or coffee or drinks order. Our afternoon arrived. I was there with my three daughters to celebrate the youngest 18th's birthday. My gluten free offering was served on one stand and the other three were squashed onto another stand. My gluten free tea consisted of three small triangle sandwiches on white bread that was either past its best or had been defrosted. There was no butter or mayo on the bread, on each triangle was a limp piece of lettuce and a small scrap of pastrami. No choice of filing! On the tier above were two large slices of chocolate cake with three strawberries. The top tier consisted of grapes! an orange cut into segments and a lemon mouse. You can imagine my dismay and disappointment. The mousse seemed rather bitter and almost if a few days old or had been sitting out. My daughters had a selection of cakes and sandwiches although no cream for their scone as they did not have room on he stand as three servings had been crammed in. Unfortunately my daughter who's birthday it was went to eat her lemon mousse and found that the raspberry on the top was hairy mould 😷! The service had been terrible the young waitress appeared to be doing it all herself while three other stood behind the counter. She forgot to bring the jug of water she had offered and when she eventually remembered that we had ordered an orange juice she did ask if everything was ok. I told her about the mouldy raspberry. I did not mention the gluten free offering as felt there was no point, I probably should have. She then contacted her manager who appeared but did not come near us. After about fifteen -twenty minutes she came back and offered us a complimentary glass of prosecco each. When I declined this she said that it was totally unacceptable what had happened and would make a deduction from the bill. I ended up paying £30 rather than the £50. She had deducted the cost of the prosecco offered from our bill. To be honest I think the manager should have approached us and in hindsight I should never have made any payment in respect of the gluten free tea. It was so awful. What should have been a celebration with a lovely afternoon tea was a complete disaster. I will not be returning and I will not recommend this venue. It has actually made me wary of booking through 5pm.
