Great food but limited choice on 5PM menu

This restaurant always serves up beautiful food but it is not cheap. The sample set menu gives the impression that there is quite a good choice but I would endorse the previous reviewers points in repeating that the 5PM menu is very limited. We received excellent service and stuck to the £17.95 menu but feel that it is a bit of a con to show a sample menu with several options on the site but then only offer two options for each course in the restaurant. I feel that many customers will end up opting for the A La Carte menu at double the 5PM price.

Intimate European restaurant in Stockbridge

The Stockbridge Restaurant is a family-run venue on St. Stephens Street. Exceptional food and attentive service are the aim here only without the flummery sometimes associated with fine dining. Clever lighting, including candles and well positioned mirrors, give everything, and everybody, a romantic glow. Paintings in the style of the Scottish Colourists add further panache.

Seasonal menus

Creative European dishes made with fresh, seasonal produce fill the menus at The Stockbridge Restaurant. Typical dishes starters on the a la carte menu might be the seared cod with a scallop and crab boudin, fennel and langoustine bisque or the pork fillet which is wrapped in pancetta and served with pork belly, cheeks and black pudding.

Popular main courses include the grilled halibut with fried quail egg, crispy pancetta, sautéed potatoes, spinach, mushrooms and an Arran mustard sauce. Others may prefer the lamb rump and belly with roasted heritage potatoes, spinach, butternut squash and romesco sauce.

Diners with room for dessert may find themselves attempting to decide between a banana tart tatin or a chocolate brulée with chocolate brownie, white chocolate mousse and milk chocolate ice cream. The restaurant also has a selection of hand-picked wines and beverages to complement your meal.
