Good food, good service, good value!

The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was tasty and excellent value for money. I can't understand why this restaurant was so quiet on a Sunday evening.

    Great bistro

We went to the Bistro and sat outside to have a drink first then went inside. We had two fish and chips, a steak pie and two children’s meals, great. I love the place. The food is great, no frozen chips here but hand cut very fresh food. The burgers were great, something I would not normally eat unless I made them myself and that is what you get here fantastic cooking and a varied menu. The style of the bistro is so beautiful with amazing hand carved tables, comfy chairs and the staff are very pleasant.

Classic, comfortable Scottish restaurant in Braid Hills

Eighteen Eighty Six Restaurant at Braid Hills Hotel is an airy, light space with a large glass wall that overlooks Braidburn Valley Park. Decked out in traditional tartans and hung with chandeliers, it also features an out door sun terrace with spectacular views of Edinburgh. A separate bar offers a good selection of whisky and cocktails.

Traditional Scottish dishes

The a la carte menu in Eighteen Eighty Six Restaurant at Braid Hills Hotel is packed with home-style favourites and traditional Scottish dishes. Among the starters, Cullen skink and Scottish game terrine are on offer alongside French onion soup and nachos. Scottish produce takes pride of place in main courses like the fillet of Tay salmon in a herb crust or the haunch of Highland venison infused with a vanilla and honey essence. A chicken curry, lasagne and fajitas provide more international flavours.

The grill section, which offers a char grilled burger and Thai marinated chicken breast as well as steaks, is always popular. It’s hard to see past desserts like the citrus bread and butter pudding with vanilla ice cream.
