56 North Review

  • Rating Bad day at the office (Rating 1.8/5)
A disappointing Valentine's dinner for my husband and I. The restaurant was cold and ambience non existent, Our starter, bruschetta, was a very modest portion but tasty enough. Sadly, the toasted bread flew across the table when cut. I fared better with the main, a Hawaiian burger which was very tasty. My husband's belly pork was decent but the accompanying chorizo and red pepper mash was lumpy and under-seasoned. Even with a 33% discount, our meal was very poor value. One bright spot was that the service was attentive and pleasant but the overall setting was well short of our expectations. Maybe just an off-form night in the kitchen but not the kind of experience to make us want to rush back. Finally, bill paid, we asked the young barman if he could order us a taxi. He said "Sorry, I don't use taxis". So that was that.
