Villager Review

  • Rating Small amounts of food (Rating 2/5)
The restaurant is in a separate room from the main bar area, therefore you are reliant on one of the staff coming through to serve food or bring in a customer. It is very dimly lit. I thought the set menu at £14.95 was a bit expensive for February when there are so many dining deals available. I was told because I booked on 5pm that I could only choose from the set menu which from what I could see only offered a 50p reduction on the a la carte pricing. Also I decided I only wanted one course. I had fish and chips, the 2 small pieces of haddock were excellent, everything else was wrong! A tiny portion of french fries in a small bucket, a spoonful of pea puree (cold) in a dish and the tartare sauce in a similar dish. I asked the waiter for more french fries these arrived after I had finished my fish and this was a good-sized portion in a bowl. When we received the bill the charge for the extra chips £2.95! My partner said his burger was very good and he ate some of the extra chips also. My major concern was that when I paid the bill by card the machine with my card were taken away because "the signal wasn't good" for the credit card machine. This was out of my sight for a few minutes.
