From when you walk in the ambience is first class. Service well you just could not fau,t it. Great choice on All three courses. good portion sizes and presentation first class. Great service.
The food was excellent. All courses were delicious and the choices suited all our diners. We are booking again and looking forward to another great meal. The staff were lovely and catered for our needs and all set in a lovely restaurant. 5 star.
Cosy bistro in Edinburgh’s Old Town
The Bistro at Hotel du Vin is tucked away off a beguiling courtyard in Edinburgh’s atmospheric Old Town. It is a cosy, welcoming space with restored fireplaces, reclaimed floorboards and lots of wine merchant memorabilia.
The Bistro will appeal to anyone who likes to enjoy fine food and wine in a unique and stylish setting.
Hearty cooking with organic produce
The kitchen brigade specialise in producing the sort of hearty, delicious cooking that people want to eat. It is not fine dining or faffy but it is fresh, seasonal, locally sourced and, wherever possible, created from organic produce. The kitchen’s ingredients are as local as they can possibly get.
The Bistro offers classic British food with a twist of French cuisine and the menu changes every day depending on the produce available. Typical starters include pork rillette with cornichons and sourdough and mains like beef Bourguignon on the bone or choucroute du Vin – roasted pork belly and pancetta with smoked pork loin and bratwurst.
The food is hearty, satisfying and the wine list, as you might imagine, makes for fun reading.
Old Town location
The Bistro is part of Hotel du Van in Edinburgh’s Old Town and around a ten minute walk from Waverley train station and frequent buses pass the restaurant. There are no car parking spaces at the hotel but there is an NCP car park within walking distance.
