Located just around the corner from the Festival Theatre, B’est is a cosy French bistro that does a brisk pre-theatre trade. A light, airy space, B’est’s walls are covered in pictures of French life as well as French culinary phrases and sayings. Freshly cooked, locally sourced food, delivered at keen prices is the cornerstone of B’est’s success.
The kitchen at B’est produces uncomplicated dishes that let the flavours of the ingredients shine through. Choices like the crepes or the Lyonnaise-style, pan-fried calves liver with mustard mash are French bistro classics which demonstrate B’est’s French roots. Other choices like the lasagne, Caprese salad or penne arrabbiata lean more to the Mediterranean. Other options, like the tower of haggis, neeps and tatties in a whisky sauce, underline B’est’s location in Scotland’s capital city.
A two minute walk from the Festival Theatre, B’est is easily reached by the many buses which run up the Bridges. There is limited on-street parking outside the restaurant. Waverley train station is a ten minute walk. Each August, during the Fringe, B’est plays host to lunch and dinner performances of the Faulty Towers Dining Experience.
