Rating Poor food (Rating 2.8/5)
This restaurant is perfectly situated for the playhouse so we booked a pre- theatre meal. We were the only people there for the first hour so no atmosphere. Nobody explained about the menu so we worked out which dishes we could have by ourselves. We both had gravalax to start and it was tasteless, lacking in seasoning. My husband had a walnut and goats cheese tart which was absolutely delicious. I had confit of pork belly which was tough as old boots and the crackling was soft. Dessert was cranachan trifle...... With layers so solid I struggled to get my spoon through them. The jellied oatmeal layer was vile. After one spoonful each we left it, very unlike me to not eat pudding! The bill was presented and we had not been charged the offer price booked on 5pm and when I queried it I was told they knew nothing about the 5pm booking and was questions about when and where I made the booking. I had to show my confirmation email on my phone with the offer stated. We felt very awkward. The bill was eventually reduced but the incident left a bad taste. On a positive note, the wine was delicious!
