Great place, great food and excellent service

We had a great meal in a wonderful environment but what left a lasting impression was the outstanding service. The 2 waiters were excellent and their service was First Class. This place is a hidden gem in Edinburgh.

    Perfect meal

Everything was perfect; food was delicious, service was discreet, friendly and impeccable. Dining chairs were set a little low for the height of the table but it wasn't an issue. We very much enjoyed our anniversary meal at Blackwood's

Stylish Scottish restaurant in the New Town

Part of the luxurious Nira Caledonia hotel on Gloucester Place in the New Town, Blackwood’s Bar & Grill is a stylish restaurant specialising in the best meat, game and seafood that Scotland’s splendid natural larder can provide. The hotel is part of an elegant Georgian terrace and that neo-classical style is reflected in the furnishings of the restaurant. Smart yet welcoming are the key features. Soft candlelight also means that Blackwood’s can be rather romantic.

Prime Scottish steak & quality cuisine

The restaurant menu is based on ingredients which are natural, fresh, often organic and farmed or caught in Scotland. Some dishes that feature include the pan-fried Isle of Mull scallops served with black pudding from the local butchers or a pheasant, partridge and pigeon terrine accompanied by spiced apple chutney and oatcakes.

Pride of place on the menu at Blackwood’s goes to the grill section. Traditional Highland cattle, reared outside on grass and heathers before being aged for 21 days, is seared to guests’ specification in the Josper charcoal oven. Rare breed pork and lamb are also available and fish lovers aren’t left out. Try the wild Scottish sea bass fillet. In short, Blackwood’s is a bit of a hidden gem tucked away on one of Edinburgh’s smarter cobbled streets. If you are looking for an authentic Scottish restaurant in the New Town then you have found it at Blackwood’s Bar & Grill.
