Part of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, The Dining Room at 28 Queen Street serves some of the capital’s finest food. Situated on the first floor of the Society’s townhouse, the elegant dining room enjoys views over Queen Street Gardens and the New Town. Along with spacious Georgian proportions, The Dining Room features bold contemporary furniture and striking, whisky-themed art. Private dining rooms, a Charles Heidsieck Champagne table and the superb range of single cask whisky in the ground floor Kaleidoscope Bar add to the appeal.
The Dining Room offers three menus: an a la carte; a three course menu du jour and a five course Taster Menu which can be paired with wines or whisky. Seasonal Scottish ingredients are used extensively and Chef James Freeman is enthusiastic about the use of foraged ingredients such as seaweed and lovage.
The presentation is deceptively simple while the flavour combinations are innovative without being eccentric. An example might be the roast cod served with Jerusalem artichoke and smoked cod brandade, trompette de la mort, hazelnuts, and roast chicken juices.
The Dining Room is in The Scotch Malt Whisky Society on Queen Street in the centre of Edinburgh. There is restricted on-street parking. The nearest pay car park is at Castle Terrace. Waverley train station is a fifteen minute walk. The National Portrait Gallery, Princes Street Gardens and shops of George Street and Multrees Walk are a ten minute walk.
The Dining Room in Edinburgh, part of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, has been named as Restaurant of the Year for Scotland at the prestigious AA Hospitality Awards.
