Booked the 5pm menu for lunch. Service was fine, although it would be easier if they could fix on one set lunch menu rather than having their own set menu and a 5pm menu (both of which are the same price) - slight confusion at the start as they had to swap the table menus for the 5pm ones.
Food was 'so so' - and left me feeling rather underwhelmed, especially given the reviews I'd read before booking. Not bad at all, and everyone seemed to enjoy there's, but I've certainly had better Italian food even at, let's say, a national chain with pizza in the title. Most of the party had the pizza main and sizes were certainly good and they were well cooked. I paid extra for the linguine, which was OK, but again not necessarily worth the extra. Deep-fried mozzarella starter again was a little bland and underwhelming in my opinion.
If I was going again I would stick to the main options on the menu such as pizza which seemed overall to be a better option, although, again I've had as good if not better elsewhere.
The ambiance is enhanced by the open kitchen with traditional-looking pizza oven.
Would I go back? Well, I wouldn't rush to book again, but then wouldn't object to going either. I feel that for the price, even on the lunch deal there are better options. Final thought at the end was a distinct underwhelmed feeling about the experience. This could have been because of expectations of something outside the ordinary owing to the reviews, but I think even if I hadn't read these I would not have left raving about the place.
In the end this is nothing more than a OK Italian which compares OK to other higher-end chains, but is as, if not more expensive in my opinion. It's not, based on this experience, a good independent Italian offering something outside what you'd get elsewhere.
