Generally, I avoid Italian restaurants on the grounds that I can produce the same dishes, usually better, at home for about 20% of the price. In the case of La Partenope, I'm glad I overcame that prejudice. At £15.95 for 3 courses and a reasonably-sized glass of wine, you can't fault the value for money. Each dish was perfectly cooked, and the fish of the day - halibut - was poached in a very light tomato coulis that complemented rather than covered the fresh flavour of the fish. The atmosphere was pleasantly relaxed and our waiter was most attentive and friendly. I've deducted a point for the lack of choice in desserts - although the cherry tart on offer was very tasty, and another for the price of the fairly mediocre Orvieto we ordered to top up the house wine freebie. There's no excuse for charging £18.50 for something as banal as this. That said, having sampled the cheaper end of La Partenope's cuisine, the quality shown there would persuade me onto the a la carte section on a future visit.
