Gastro bar in Quartermile

No 8 Lister Square aims to be a modern take on the traditional local or neighbourhood pub. Live music, liquor and updated bar food classics are the attractions at this contemporary bar in the gleaming Quartermile development. They could also add a free pool table, pub quiz, comfy Chesterfield sofas and an al fresco terrace to the list of plus points.

Global influences, local sourcing

The kitchen at No 8 Lister Square offers a combination of classic dishes, light bites, comfort food and healthy dishes from lunchtime onwards. Fresh and locally sourced ingredients are the common thread in a menu that ranges from lunchtime sandwiches and salads to evening main courses such as the roast pork belly stuffed with black pudding and sage, creamed potatoes, caramelised apple, a wholegrain mustard sauce and pancetta crisp. Some options, like the battered haddock and chips, are pub classics. Others, like the blackened salmon topped with pink grapefruit and crème fraiche, served on a mango, cucumber and coriander salsa, have more exotic roots.

The after works drinks crowd can graze on sharing platters of cheese or charcuterie. Like all proper bars, No 8 Lister Square also serves a roast lunch on Sundays.

Quartermile transport links and attractions

No 8 Lister Square is on Simpson Loan in the Quartermile development by The Meadows. Waverley train station is a brisk twenty minute walk or ten minute drive. There is some restricted parking in the area. Nearby attractions include Edinburgh Festival Theatre and the National Museum of Scotland.
