Grand Cru Reviews

  • Grand time at the Grand Cru (Rating 3.8/5)
A friend and I went to the Grand Cru for lunch. There was a bit of confusion in giving us the wrong menu's, the parking wasn't great and I had to ask 2 different waitresses at 2 different times for a high chair for my son. On the plus points the restaurant was clean, the service was fast and the food was very enjoyable - not Michelin starred cuisine and it was all very expected but it was great value for money and the food was tasty. I would go back if i was in the area.

  • Grand Cru dinner set menu £10 (Rating 3/5)
A good solid pub meal, had the deep fried brie to start which was good but some of the pieces had no cheese inside! Mussels were average, but the cream sauce was too thick and gloomy for my taste. It was as though it had been sat on the stove for too long and it had reduced down too much. Had a Peroni with it which was fine. Would go back, good place to go on a budget.

  • Nice food, shame about the service! (Rating 2.4/5)
Ate here on a visit to Edinburgh with my wife, having been before with friends and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I had booked through 5pm.co.uk but on arriving at the restaurant, there was no table booked, although a few tables were free. We were asked for our drink order but wanted a little more time to look at the extensive cocktail menu...then we waited...and waited. Finally someone came back to take our drink order and we ordered food from the special 5pm menu. If we hadn't ordered a bottle of wine, I think that would have been the only drink we got during our visit! The food was nice and came to our table quickly, but it wasn't that busy. At no point did anyone come and ask if our food was ok. The waitresses seemed too busy talking to bother. At the end of our main course the plates were taken away and that was it...no offer of another drink or to see the dessert menu. We waited again to catch someones eye to ask for our bill which was just plonked on the table. Needless to say, as the service was almost non existent, we left no tip. Food was good, service awful, toilets even worse!!

Food good large portion, too much tomatoes sauce with chicken but okay, pork dish good, disappointed no steak on menu! Lovely relaxed atmosphere
