Having already proved wildly successful in Glasgow, it was only a matter of time before the Cafe Andaluz Spanish tapas group established itself in Edinburgh. Opened in 2008, the George Street Cafe Andaluz restaurant is the largest in the group of three but it is having no difficulties in filling its seats with Edinburgh tapas fans. The interior looks as though it has been airlifted in from Malaga. Terracotta pots, Moorish hanging lamps and intricately carved wooden furniture all give the impression that you could be dining in an Andalucian bodega rather than Edinburgh’s city centre.
Spanish tapas
Cafe Andaluz is the first restaurant to have brought Spanish tapas to Edinburgh’s fashionable George Street. The restaurant has a wide selection of tapas but the common thread is that they are all made from fresh ingredients which are prepared on the premises. As ever with tapas, one of the best things about the Cafe Andaluz menu is that it can please numerous people whatever their preferences. Creative vegetarian dishes like the pan-fried wild mushrooms on a crisp bread crouton scented with truffle oil or grilled goat’s cheese with Seville orange and chilli marmalade nestle along side seafood dishes such as the crisp fried baby squid served with garlic mayonnaise and lemon or the marinated octopus. Carnivorous eaters will enjoy the spicy chorizo sausage sauteed with sweet red onions in red wine.
