We were visiting Edinburgh, and staying in Bruntsfield. Not sure of the local restaurants, and eating later than usual, we chose this place based on location, and reviews on 5pm.
We were slightly taken aback to be greeted by name, and were shown immediatley to our table. Everyone was very friendly.
The restaurant is adjoined to the Best Western hotal, and the surroundings are a bit stark and brightly lit. Ok for breakfast, but not what we had envisaged. We were hoping for somewhere more cosy and romantic.
The staff and the manager were very attentive, and explained how the menus worked, and offered us our free drink. The starters arived quickly - the soup was excellent, the terrine was nice and the portion size generous, but served a bit cold.
Our main courses arrived quickly afterwards. The chicken with haggis was nice, and my sea bass looked great with 3 large pieces of fish. Unfortunately the fish was underdone, and had to be sent back. By the time it arrived, my wife's was a little cold, and the replacement fish portion was much smaller than the original. The manager apologised, and offered to replace either, or both meals with anything from the menu. By this time we really couldn't be bothered eating. We tried to pay for the starters, but the manager wouldn't hear of it. He really could not have been more helpful.
We sat and finished our wine, and he made a point of chatting to us afterwards. Sometimes if you complain about something there is a chilling of the atmosphere, but not on this occasion!
We certainly were impressed by the customer service, and i think we may just have been unlucky with our main course. We'll visit again on our next trip to Edinburgh.
