The staff were prompt and polite.
The meal was great value with a menu comprising of fresh, seasonal and uncompliacated produce.
I would have liked the mustard dressing accompanying my black pudding starter to be more mustard and less cream. The Black Pudding was spicy and of good quality. The tiger prawn starter was lovely, and the Brushetta simple but competent.
The mains were much more pleasing. The Salmon with Cheddar Mash and Tarragon Cream Sauce was wonderful. Crispy skin gave way to succulent, well cooked fish, the mash wasn't too overpowering and worked well with the sauce. The Breaded Haddock was fresh, served with nicely cooked peas and a mountain of chips. The Roast Rib of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding was from the daily specials which represent great vaule. The huge slab of beef was accompanied by a wonderful gravy. This was ordered by two companions and one got thiers cooked medium and the other was more rare - however, they weren't asked. If you order it make sure you let the waiter know your preference.
A shared cheeseboard of Scottish Cheeses and one Treacle Tart with Clotted Cream was a great end to a great meal.
