Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea has swung right back into fashion over the last few years with everyone from the grandest hotels to the coolest bars reviving the afternoon tea tradition. You can use 5pm Dining to find, browse and book venues that offer afternoon tea in your area.

In Glasgow, traditional tea rooms like Cup, Cranachan and The Tearooms at The Butterfly and the Pig serve up delectable cup cakes and scones, while trendy bars like Lucky 7 on Glasgow's Bath Street and Wild Cabaret are putting a funky new spin on afternoon tea and cocktails or fizz. In Edinburgh, hotels such as the Waldorf Astoria and One Square in the Sheraton ensure that the custom of taking afternoon tea is in no danger of dying out in the capital.

    Disappointed

Although the surroundings and service were good the food was poor. The limp sandwiches were skewered together on the bottom tier of a 2tier cake stand. Once released from the skewers the fillings were a disappointment, luckily I had ordered a side of chips! The scones, the nicest part of the tea, came on a separate plate and I had to ask for serving plates as our sandwich plates were covered in salt from the chips. I also had to ask for the tea to be served. The fruit cake was passable and my American guest asked if fudge was usually served with afternoon tea. I did not have the heart to inform her it was meant to be a chocolate brownie. Definitely not an experience that was worth the £45!
