Very nice Nepales restaurant. Lovely non greasy food obviously freshly prepared. Nice surroundings and very reasonably priced for such good quality.
Will definitely return. Highly recommended.
Authentic Nepalese by Union Square shopping centre
Staking a claim to be the first Nepalese restaurant to open in Aberdeen, Gurkha Chef is on Palmerston Road at the Marks and Spencer end of the Union Square shopping centre. Simply decorated but cosy and welcoming, the restaurant serves an enticing mix of Nepalese dishes and more familiar Indian cuisine.
Popular Indian and Nepalese dishes
Both Nepalese cuisine and dishes from the Indian subcontinent are on the menu at Aberdeen’s Gurkha Chef. Popular Nepalese starters include momo – steamed dumplings which are served with a tomato and sesame chutney. Equally exotic are the haggis pakora. The staff recommend the railway curry – lamb and baby potatoes cooked with coconut, curry leaves and freshly ground spices, served with spinach sautéed in black cumin and garlic.
There are also plenty of fans for the sherpa lamb which is roasted with whole spices and a tomato and red wine sauce. Indian dishes include the lamb sag, Bengal fish curry made with monkfish and, of course, the chicken tikka masala. Vegetarians have plenty of choice at the Gurkha Chef.
Transport option by Union Square
Located on Palmerston Road, the Gurkha Chef is by the Union Square shopping centre. Aberdeen railway station is a five minute walk as is the city’s main bus station. There are numerous bus routes on the nearby Market Street and there is plenty of car parking in the area. The Cineworld cinema is a five minute walk through the shopping centre.
