A Scottish restaurant and cafe bar whose name means ëto wander’, Stravaigin has been a gastro hotspot in Glasgow’s West End ever since it opened in 1994. Whether you choose to feast in Stravaigin’s downstairs restaurant or graze over a drink in the lively bar, you can be certain of a warm welcome and the sort of cheery, informal atmosphere that encourages customers to linger. A major refurbishment is planned for August 2010 but the hospitable vibe is sure to continue irrespective of what happens to the currently rustic decor. Special event nights, wine dinners and an open mind in the kitchen mean that a visit to Glasgow’s Stravaigin will almost always deliver something new, no matter how regularly you sit down at their tables.
Scottish
Think global, eat local is the motto at Stravaigin on Gibson Street in Glasgow’s West End. What this means is that while Stravaigin’s herbs may come from Arran, their pork from Ayrshire and their venison from Galloway, these ingredients will go into dishes inspired by Spain, Vietnam, Bali or indeed Arbroath. Stravaigin often has several menus running and they change regularly but representative dishes might include a smoked haddock rarebit served with Ramsay’s bacon, a mussel and leek fricassee and wholegrain mustard cream or Balinese slow cooked pork belly with lemongrass and peanut, coconut congee, choi sum and a coriander pesto. One of the most innovative Scottish restaurants in Glasgow, Stravaigin is deservedly popular.
