The Sarti family are synonymous with Italian food in Glasgow and Osteria Piero, the latest venture from Piero Sarti, hits the nail on the head. Piero Sarti is a basement restaurant on the corner of Glasgow’s West Regent Street but it wouldn’t look out of place in a Tuscan village. Hams hang from the ceiling, the walls are covered with pictures of triumphant Italian football teams and the waiting staff are as knowledgeable as they are charming. Piero Sartis is the sort of place where nothing makes the staff smile more than being asked for a recommendation.
Rustic Italian
Glasgow’s Piero Sarti is not trying to be at the cutting edge of contemporary Italian cuisine. Instead, it is all about the Italian kitchen tradition of taking great ingredients and treating them simply to let the flavours speak for themselves. You could try starting with one of the platters of cured meats, cheese, marinated vegetables and seafood or get stuck into the pasta. Think along the lines of Tortiglioni prepared with Tuscan pure pork sausage and tender pieces of pork served in a rich ragu. Naturally, Piero Sarti serves a range of pizza or you could explore main courses such as the tomato-based fish soup from the Tuscan town of Viareggio. Packed with langoustine, clams, mussels, squid and prawns, it’s the type of dish that makes Piero Sarti very popular with Glasgow lovers of rustic Italian food.
