Visitors to Glasgow’s theatre district have enjoyed the French Mediterranean food at La Bonne Auberge for over thirty years now. Launched by restaurateur Maurice Taylor in 1975, this AA rosette winning brasserie is still as popular as the day it opened. La Bonne Auberge is split into two areas, one light and airy with commanding views over Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, the other is darker with a moody Gallic charm. Along with pictures of men drinking absinthe, the waiters sport black waistcoats and long white aprons. Accents aside, you could just be in a brasserie on the Left Bank.
French Mediterranean
Gallic flair, an informal sense of hospitality and authentic French Mediterranean dishes have kept Glasgow’s Bonne Auberge busy for decades. Because of its proximity to Glasgow’s concert halls and theatres, La Bonne Auberge runs a very popular pre-theatre menu but if you want to linger all night over the a la carte then you will be made to feel just as welcome. Starters range from old favourites such as the chicken liver pate served on toasted brioche to more adventurous options such as the Parma ham with celeriac remoulade and sweet pickled melon. Popular main courses include the baked salmon fillet with minted peas, shallots and Baby Gem leaves as well as the chicken wrapped in pancetta. If you like French Mediterranean food then try La Bonne Auberge. Its name is Glaswegian for You’ll be back’.
