Indian cuisine with a Persian twist makes the award-winning KoolBa restaurant a unique proposition in Glasgow. Part of the fashionable Merchant City restaurant scene, KoolBa is close to the area’s theatres and concert halls but also handy for nearby offices and shops. The decor is striking. Carved wooden decorations and pictures of traditional Persian village life are all displayed to good effect by KoolBa’s rich red walls.
Persian Indian
In 2009, KoolBa won the Indian Restaurant of the Year category at the Scottish Restaurant of the Year awards but its mix of Persian and Indian dishes pulled in plenty of customers to its Glasgow site long before that. All their dishes are prepared and cooked freshly on the premises, using, in as far as is possible, locally produced ingredients. KoolBa’s customers like being able to switch between Indian and Persian dishes with each course. This might mean starting your meal with Middle Eastern hummus and fresh breads before moving on to a king prawn balti or, it could mean, starting your meal with a combo platter of Indian starters and choosing a barbecued mince lamb kebab dish for the main course. While KoolBa’s Indian cuisine will be familiar to most people, the Persian use of fruit, cinnamon, saffron and parsley offers something new and exciting for most Glasgow diners.
