Cul-de-Sac, Glasgow

44 Ashton Lane, G12 8SJ
Cuisine French

Ashton Lane is better known for its bars than its restaurants but tucked in at the very end is Cul de Sac, a French eatery that could change that reputation. Cul de Sac used to be a student favourite but has now had a makeover, both in terms of the restaurant and the menu. Gone is the slightly dingy, well-worn look and the burgers and crepes to be replaced by a chic and intimate environment serving authentic Gallic fare. The menu boasts bouillabaisse, cassoulet, gratin dauphinois and other classic French dishes as well as some more adventurous desserts; try the pear poached in red wine. With its dramatic colour scheme of red and cream against monochrome tiles, its a thoroughly stylish place, ideal for romantic evenings but with a more casual lunch menu and a bargain of a pre-theatre deal it is perfect at any time.
