A former church, Cottiers is a landmark restaurant and bar in Glasgow’s West End and is well known for its menu of South American dishes. Built in 1865, the building has undergone extensive refurbishment and is now a spectacular, not to mention popular, place for a drink or meal. Cottiers restaurant is on the first floor of the building and features shimmering gold ceilings, original salvaged church chairs and bespoke, handcrafted gilt mirrors. The elegant interior is eye-catching but the exterior views of the illuminated church steeple and the mature gardens below are not to be sniffed at either.
There is a distinct South American flavour to the food at Glasgow’s Cottier restaurant and bar. Especially popular with the diners of Glasgow’s West End are Cottier’s specialities like the fried taquitos filled with mixed veg or beef chilli. Other South American specialities include the empanadas, or pastries filled with spicy shredded chicken. The range of fajitas is a firm customer favourite but so are more adventurous dishes like the drunken pork and the roast chicken served with coconut sauce and a green herb rice. Fish lovers opt for dishes like the steamed mussels or the pan-fried loin of swordfish which is served with a mixed bean and chorizo stew and mango salsa. A popular Glasgow venue all year round, in the summer months the beautiful outside terraces of Cottiers provide a leafy setting for barbecues.
